                 The veterans

I drank at a bar with a one armed sailor.
His best friend was a one legged major.
The bar tender had a patch on his eye
And the sight of their dog could make you cry.

The dog sat by the one legged major
And was patted by the one armed sailor.
He sat with one ear up and one ear down,
His face was scared a perpetual frown.

His legs were bowed his toes were grey,
His tail didn't wag it was blown away.
But his eyes were large expressive and wet.
With devotion for the men where he set.

They are veterans all, of the last great war.
As you can see by the scars that they bore
And when they came to this bar to drink,
It was for friendship and not to think.

This is a story of pain and stable,
It stems from the bibles, Cain and Abel.

So many wonderful dogs gave up their lives to try to save our Veterans...altho scarred, I am glad your dog was able to be among the major and the sailor.  Good thoughts, well put.

Nice and lucid, Seymour!

Just a small blemish

The word "scares" should have been 'scars', I think. -> 'As you can see by the scares that they bore'

But, it is an excellent piece!

Regards,
sudhir.

Take each day as it comes,
Consider each day as a flight,
Try hard to succeed and fly,
Surely then you will reach some height.

But if by some chance you don’t,
Remember that tomorrow will always come.
Learn this well and learn this hard
That today’s efforts will pay for tomorrow’s fun.
