Author's Note:  This song was written a few years after my paternal grandmother died.  I was driving
down the road, thinking of her, and the song started to flow in my head.  I hope that this is one of my
better songs, because Grandma Hoecherl deserved the best!

      Take Me Back to Yesterday

Rolling down a lonely road,
Searching for a dream -
I wonder if my quest will ever end?
My head is full of memories;
My eyes are filled with tears.
But, somehow, there's an emptiness within.

Take my hand and lead me back to yesterday;
How I miss those happy hours we once knew!
I need you - but you're gone,
And it's hard to carry on.
So, take me back to yesterday;
Let me spend just one more day with you.

Do you recall the joy we shared,
On golden afternoons?
We walked and talked together in the park.
The flowers still bloom brightly, there;
The sun still burns above.
But, since you left, the days are cold and dark.

Take my hand and lead me back to yesterday;
How I miss those happy hours we once knew!
I need you - but, you're gone;
And, it's hard to carry on.
So, take me back to yesterday;
Let me spend just one more day with you.

The caterpillar rests, awhile,
To rise, on silken wings;
And, everyone who dies shall live again.
I know that, in another life,
I'll be with you, once more,
If I can only make it through, 'til then.

Take my hand and lead me back to yesterday;
How I miss those happy hours we once knew!
I need you - but, you're gone;
And, it's hard to carry on.
So, take me back to yesterday;
Let me spend just one more day with you.

Thank you all for your kind words!  And, I promise - as soon as I buy a microphone for my computer, I will do an audio file.

ESP - Consider it done!  I'll have to see what kind of a deal I can get on a microphone.

Troy,
This sounds very much like a John Denver song, In fact I was reading it to the tune of Rocky Mountain High. I bet he would have snatched this one up!.
Very beautiful, indeed

Splendid writing, Troy...I was hearing the style of James Taylor and even a bit of John Prine's irony with this one. Wonderful bridge. Your grandmother must have been a treasure. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece with us.

David - thank you, my friend!  You don't know how much your kind words mean to me - although I think you must have been looking in the mirror when you said "You're the best." - You certainly are, my friend!

Lone Wolf - thank you!  I will certainly send you a copy of the audio file, when I can get a microphone.

Liz - thanks!  I love John Denver - he was/is one of my favorites!  So sad that he died so young...

Claire - thank you so much!  Yes, my Grandma really was the best!  I love James Taylor, too!  Never heard John Prine, though...

Again, thank you all for your kind comments!
