Distance and Memories

The distance that surrounds us
   leaves us with a feeling of loneliness.

We once knew each other
   by our smiles, laughter, and tears.

We are now left only with those tears
   that flow like the rain on stormy days.

Memories of our laughter fade away
   into the dark of the night.

Your smile remains forever embedded
   in my mind everyday the sun shines.

My thoughts of you light the world
   like a national celebration.

I have not forgotten you-
   But forgotten how short distance is made by our memories.

Our paths will meet again someday soon,
   and we will again be joined by our memories.

This really touched me. I have a friend left behind who I truly hope to be "joined by our memories" again.
