Empty

I walked along the beach today
And felt the years just fall away.
It seemed the same as once we two
Would come here when our love was new.
The surf left foam like frothy lace
Upon the dark sand's gleaming face
And up against the dunes I found
Gray driftwood that had washed aground.
I looked for ships upon the sea,
But it was empty, just like me!

Dear Betty,  Sounds like you might be a little sad too.  My poem was not meant to be sad just wondering what things would have been like if he had been allowed to live out a full life span.  Joyce

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Loneliness is a sad place, but knowing you and your love for life, this too will pass...hugs and love to you, dear Betty.

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Joyce:  I'm not really sad.  This just came to me out of nowhere, so I wrote it. Thanks for caring.

ellie:  Thanks for your kind words.  I always write what comes to me, and never know where it came from sometimes.  I had been thinking about the beach, which I love ant this popped into my mind.  I do love life as you so nicely mentioned and I am an optimistic person, even if the poetry sounds sad sometimes.

Remembering something lost does make us feel blue. Hang on to the good memories. The sands of time will wash away the sad, if we search for the good memories to hang onto.

Hugs,
Deb

BettyLou~
I LOVE it when you go with the flow~

When a poet can make the reader sense a feeling ..., whether it's 'real' or not, that's a good, good thing~

And sometimes ... even though it's not 'real' for us ... it's felt in the heart of one who needs it~

Marge;  Thanks for all your comments and I think you're right.  We often strike a responsive chord in others, though it may not be an emotion we are going through ourselves. The beauty of poetry!
