Shipwrecked Girl

Alone
Left out in the pouring rain to decay
She stood
Weathered and contemplative

But still she hoped
Somewhere deep in her shipwrecked heart
That this life of waiting
That these days of unending tears
And years of lonely sorrow
That this life would soon change

Or end

Still through many storms and rain
Wind and sun
She waited

Ever still

With the solitary hope of rescue
Glowing deep in her oaken heart

Once this girl had been bright and happy
As she roamed the Seven Seas
With only the sea and weather to slow her
As she crested every wave bravely
At the helm of a mighty sea-faring ship

Now she stands
Alone
A shard of her former self
Wedged between rock and cliff

Waiting
Waiting
Ever still

And though she may just be a poor shipwrecked girl
And her body hewn from rough saw’n oak
Inside her beats a heart
As alive as you or I

A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us.

This slow death must be hard to bear for such a staunch hearted girl.  Joyce

*sigh* You know..sometimes we can get stuck for so long..that the waves may wash over us and drown us. I hope she frees herself soon and finds what it is she needs to sail again.

Lovely..and its wonderful to see you.

X Angel:  I really loved this, as my family used to sail and we often admired the figureheads on ships that we met.  There is a walkway at Rosario in the San Juan Islands, that is lined with old figureheads and they always seemed alive to me!

This was inspired in part by my love of mermaids and the sea, and in part by my favorite poet Pablo Neruda. He too loved the figureheads..in fact he collected them. When I rented the dvd about his life "Il Postino" the documentary at the end was fascinating. It showed his huge collection of figureheads etc.

Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate them all.
