I tried, I honestly tried
Layed my head down, sighed
Got back up wanting to cry
Full moon smiles on dry eyes

I called, only to talk
A reminder of sunny day walks
Tried to laugh, laughter balked
Frog in my throat sits and sulks

I remembered autumn days
Watching spring go its way
Summer came, wanted to stay
Winter ice freezing, melted away

I pictured warm brown eyes
Tall, handsome man by my side
Deep throaty chuckle, mouth open wide
No longer to stand in warm sunshine

Withered away by disease
His breathing slowly ceased
While laying shaded by the trees
A lonely bird song comes on a breeze

To my knees on yielding ground
Smoothing out his troubled brow
Just a fleeting little frown
No more pain, just goodbye for now....

        ~~~Dedicated to Herschal~~~
~~~My Uncle passed away on Monday night, even though the doctors said he had a few months left.  I think after watching his mother and sister struggle so hard through their final months, he didn't want to put his family through it again, so he just gave up.  That's okay.  He isn't in pain any more and the cancer won't hurt him now.  So, while written with a heavy heart, this poem is in no way saying I'm suicidal or anything.  The "goodbye for now" is because I believe that he's with his mother and sister, and someday I'll join them.  Not anytime soon, but I know they're all waiting for one more family reunion.~~~~

I 2 also lost an uncle not that long ago so I know where you are coming from with this poem.  Sometimes with a heavy heart we write one of our best poems.  That way not only are you remembering your uncle but you have a peace of work that you can sit proudly with in his dedication.

Wishing you all the best in your healing process.

BrokenWingedAngel:  Sorry that you have suffered a loss in the family. It's always such a hard time to get through. At least your uncle isn't suffering any longer!

Prayers for you and your family in this time of loss. Your compassion and understanding of the pain of the disease is touchingly shown in this write.
