I love a windy day that blows
It's woodsy breath upon the clothes
I hang out on the line to dry
And chases clouds about the sky
I love a windy night as well,
That makes the curtains puff and swell
When blowing through the open pane
And bringing in the scent of rain.
It also brings the rushing sound
of pushing boughs of trees around
And other strange and haunting sighs
My listening ear can't recognize.
On flower-scented sheets, I lie
And hear the night go breezing by!

Beautiful.  I remember the fresh smell of sheets off the line.  Now it is so much easier to put them in the dryer.  Joyce

Wonderful! I love that smell of the earth when it rains...I've heard it said... that is what God smells like!  Ellie

I could feel the breeze in my hair as I read this. Nicely Done.

Thank you everyone.  I enjoyed reading your comments and glad to hear this poem brought back fond memories of windy days and clothes dried outdoors.

faterider:  Thanks for reading and commenting. I guess many people enjoy the wind......if it's reasonable and not blowing things away.

It is hot and sticky here, I could use a little of that wind, if you could spare it.

For most, drying clothes outside is a thing of the past. It isn't possible where I live. But, This reminds me of my mother and how she had to do it. Thanks.

I live in the country so I still dry clothes outside at times, especially sheets and towels. Love that fresh air scent.  Better than fabric softener any day.
