Lonely snowbird on the sill
have you lost your way
all your friends have flown
to a balmy southern day

did you miss the gathering
that bonding in mid flight
or did you dread the journey
more than winter’s night

fluff your tiny wings brave one
to shed the falling snow
this food I give most freely
but that I think you know

I shall build a shelter snug
to shield you from the freeze
tis nothing but a gift you see
to keep you at your ease

For we are very much alike
my snowbird, you and I
we fear the biting northern wind
and on shelter we rely

Perhaps when you have rested
and things seem not so bad
you will trill a lovely song
a happy one, not sad

for spring is not so far away
your flock will soon return
and if you tell our story true
perhaps new friends I’ll earn

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Enjoyed. Hope it doesn't get too cold for your feathered friend. I have a feeling you will be true to your word and build him a cozy nest.

Oh, I thought you lived in Florida and that all of our little birds went there for the winters.  Anyway it was a nice trilling little piece.  I have snowbirds here all winter living off of me.  The rascals.  Love, Joyce

pegasus111:  I really enjoyed your poem!  Reminded me of last winter when we had a winter wren who sheltered behind some bushes in our front yard all winter. I threw handfuls of bird seed behind and could see it eating through the shrubbery. Sometimes it would come out on nice days and perch on a branch and chirp away!  I really missed it when it left.

~that bonding in mid flight~

I never thought of it like that but it makes sense to me. How lucky that lil bird is to have you as it's friend. And i'm sure once he shares his sweet story you will indeed have earned more friends.

Dear Peg; Such a lovely poem...so telling of your gentle spirit.A poem of hope and the glorious promise that Spring will surely come again.  Hugs, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
