Standing back,
Backing away,
Smirk on my face,
Turning around,
Walking away.

Feeling a sense of relief,
Feeling light as a feather,
Burdon free,
Hassle free,
Can I sense a hint of victory?

Never thought of you as a burden,
Not until now.
Never felt as free,
When I carried you on my shoulders,
Something which I did for so long,
Forgetting about me.

You failed to see the real me,
You never let me shine,
Forgot how to open up to you,
So my "friend"
I moved on.

Found people who trust me,
Found people who listen,
Found people who I can turn to,
Someone who isn't you.

Looking in from the outside,
I can see who you really are,
A mixed up kid,
Who will never let my legacy go.

So someday I will become a distant memory,
Someone you'll soon forget,
Paved a life for you,
Carved a stone for you,
Dedicating my time to you.

So you've thrown the stone back,
Smashed every window that open’s my heart,
Shattered into tiny pieces,
Fragmented it lies,
Wanting to die.

Now picking up the pieces,
Learning to trust once more,
Finally closing the chapter,
And the big steel door.

Locking you out now,
Times now up,
Can’t turn the clock back,
So now you’re out of luck.

Key turns,
Doors lock,
Safe once more,
Away from the friend,
That no longer knows.

So take care of yourself,
I wish you luck.

Backs away,
Smiling,
Free at last,
No more tears to cry,
Doves flying way up high....

Intriguing. Sounds like a bad experience that had gone on too long.  Well expressed.  Joyce

I know what that feels like. Sometimes you want to be loved so badly you put up with things you shouldnt and you end up settling for what you dont really want. All I can say is that good things are worth waiting for and lately due to much thought Iam starting to think that is tru no matter how long it takes. Good poem lonestar, hope you arent too sad, dx

Wow I must say I can relate to this, just been sacked by my boss (I worked my ass off for him and thought I had a friend in him haha)...

Nevertheless I think forgiveness plays a big part in healing too. Well done, Lonestar!

wow, this is powerful. There is nothing like the feeling that you're making the right choice.. especially if you feel like this afterwards.. Tho I must admit, I always feel sad letting go/pushing a friend away, even if they aren't treating me well.

VERY well written Lonestar
