at the party
I called we
where
you wrote the guest list
(Present Invitation At The Door)
we were doing just fine
just you and me and
Just Friends
and Just Caring
we needed only this
no less and no more
smiles were a plenty
Just Friends was truly happy
and Just Caring was
more than enough
so imagine my surprise
when Jealousy popped in
"just to say hi"
she said she was invited
with Wanting You
and Needing You Too Much
but I read the guest list
so I knew that she was lying
and now I fear
I have upset the balance
at this party
between you and me
too many guests to deal with
and not enough of you
to go around
I wish I could univite them
but they refuse
to go out the door
now nothing
is the same
not anymore
the unwelcomed guests
shuffle aimlessly
forever unhappy
with what is not to be
forever unsatisfied
with what was before
often they interrupt whatever is left
with a chorus of
What's Wrong With Wanting More?
we both look to the other
not knowing what to do
and I just wish
we could go back
to the party I called
we
where we were
happy
just being friends
no less
and no more
