I recall when growing up seemed like just the thing to do.
Get a job and make some money, and have a party, too.
I sadly sit and reminisce, when I was young and free-
I guess that something must have changed, and it just might be me.

I recall when I was young and strong, when I was in my prime-
It seems I’m now a victim of the heavy hand of time…
No more hiking down the road, free as any breeze.
I guess that something must have changed, and it just might be me.

I remember all my dreams of wealth, success, and much acclaim-
Beauty queens, gold buckles; and a well-respected name.
I planned on fancy cars, and trucks, a life of luxury…
But somewhere something must have changed… maybe it was me.

I can certainly relate because well I am at that stage of just starting out in line and I am scared as hell sometimes on how I am going to manage, whether I will get a good job after college.

a wonderful poem, powerful stuff. You have given meb a lot to think about.

Youth is fleeting, and we all have to grow up sometime. You describe the feeling well, when you realize that you are changing, not everything else.

You pegged this one, 'slinger. That's exactly what happens. The world changes a bit when seen through older eyes.

life is a road well traveled...age is only a brick in that road...
