The Shores of Alone

This is a true story, more than a poem. Please pass it on to anyone you know who thinks that life hurts too much to go on, who might think that a handful of pills will solve everything.

For Tina

A young, bautiful girl,
loved by many- but she never felt it.
Always sad, lonely,
often pushed away her friends.
Once, while still a teen,
she tried to take her life.
She was saved in time.
Her friends thought she was ok.
She let most of them back in.
Several years passed,
no one knew the depth of her pain.
She cried alone, she drank a lot.
She was a regular party girl.
Today I heard the news..
on the summer solstice, she tried again.
Twenty six, and giving up onlife.
For two days, she sat in a chair, in a coma.
Her roommate came and went
assuming she was sleeping, or sleeping it off.
Eventually she was taken away.
They hooked her up to life support,
and ever since, she has laid in bed,
only a residual spark of life remaining.
She doesn't look like Tina anymore.
The doctors have proclaimed it hopeless.
Now here's the really ugly part..
They took away her breathing tube
and she continued to breathe.
Perhaps she changed her mind?
Did her spirit want to try again?
Does she want to be saved?
She can't speak, can hardly move,
but a tear has been seen
slipping down her cheek
Today, they decided
she was too damaged,
she was no longer worth trying to save,
and they stopped feeding her-
took away her liquids,
shot her full of morphine
(just in case SHE KNOWS)
and her extended death
is happening now.
Her own mother approved it.
She slowly starves
and I only hope
she is too far gone
to feel....

the most horrible thing, you know I always try to be there for people like Im sure some were there for her, but I know the darkness takes over. I stood by a friend of mine that tried to commit suicide, and yrs later she (thank God) has found her way and lives her life to the fullest now. Just so so sad,so very sad, I will pray for her

A tragic tale, Catalina, so well told. Unfortunately many people who feel this way don't let it show (hiding behind the always happy facade). Thank you for taking the time to write this poem.

Sad, but all too true. I think that people have so much going on in their heads all of the time, that is impossible to understand what's in your own, let alone anybody else's.
But Lord we try... and it's so sad that when it's that bad that no amount of friendship or love can assist them in healing.
God Bless, Jenn

Sorry, I had to  bring this up for anyone that did not see it. Not cause it's my poem, but I am still so upset about the whole situation, and I wish I could get this message to the whole world. Please don't do it!

A very sad tale. I can relate...my mother committed suicide. My sympathies to you and her family.

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.

My heart to you and her family kid.

Joel.

I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel.

Hi, its me again, wanted to place this brief update to the story.
At 10:15 AM on July 12, this precious girl died. Word from friends that were there, is that it was a horrible and difficult end.  Thankfully it is over, and I hope her spirit is soaring free and happy.  I hope...I wish I knew for sure..

I'm so sorry for the loss of a wounded soul that just wanted to learn how to love herself. My condolences to you.

oh dear moonbeam.  i can not use any words to ease your heart.  but now her spirit is free to read the ones you wrote.  she knows you loved her, as i love you.  hang in there, precious.  she smiles down on you.

Across the gateway of my heart,
I wrote "No Thoroughfare!!"
But love came laughing by and
Cried "I enter everywhere!!!"

cat, I am sorry for the lost of your friend. A touching tribute and words of wisdoms. I am reminded of "Prozac Nation" by Elizabeth Wurthzel, a great read for any one who wants to know more on teenage depression and the reality of the situation. I know your friend's soul is finally at peace.

I can relate to this. I've been there myself.
There have been times in my life when I felt just so low that I questioned, Why am I still here?  Why have I seen so many good friends die and not me?  How can I survive with the memories that haunt my mind?  These questions I still haven't answered but I've learned to live one day at a time.  Hope that you to can continue and don't let them haunt you.
