I'm weary and spent and long to rest
In the grass by an age old tree...
Where a waiting breeze sings of tender things,
Lilting and swift and free!

Ah, there would I lie, serene and calm,
And watch the branches sway...
And never give heed to a hungering need
For a love that has passed away!

There would I find my soul again,
There would I know release...
And there would I stay for a long long day
In infinite rest and peace!

And no one would know how I came to roam,
Nor where I chanced to be...
Save the tall green grass and the breeze that passed,
And an ancient twisted tree!

Hey Rex any chance of giving me directions to your little paradise. Sounds wonderful. Your words made me feel I was there.

Rex, what a beautiful poem! Your style reminds me of the German romantics.

Rex, this poem is wonderful!  *sigh* An old tree seems to evoke a feeling of comfort, of security... and all at once, allows you to also dream, reflect, and find oneself!   Loved it!

Rex, the "love that has passed away" is sad, but the will to find peace and happiness shows a great deal of hope. Nice poem.

REX!!!! This takes the cake! The poem is just lovely. A depth of feeling;a mastery of metre and rhythm; the lilting cadences of "Annabelle Lee";wonderful structuring;terrific development of the theme. Congratulations on creating this masterpiece! I am going to learn it by heart!

Rex...this is so Kiplingnesque.  The cadence, the....all the stuff Deepak said so well.  I agree...a masterpiece.  I can see high schoolers everywhere reciting this in English lit.  (The sentiment was not lost here either).  Hardrock

Me too Rex me too!!  Save a place under the ancient tree for a kindred souled traveller such as myself.
Rex hon, this is indeed a masterpiece, the descriptions of the haven we all seek..
Bravo!!
