There is a kind of madness-
Which flows within my veins..
Sometimes it takes control of me
And makes me act insane.
A rage which flares within me
And makes me want to rend-
The nearest people to me…
I fear where it might end.
I’ve tried to delve within my heart
I’ve tried to find the source…
Of the wild and strange emotions
Which take me with their force.
I do believe they are the same
Which once caused me to roam-
Which drove my soul with wanderlust
And robbed me of a home.
There’s something in the cold North wind
Which acts just like a goad…
And starts my feet to itching…
For a new, uncharted road.
There’s something in the setting sun
Which makes me long to see-
The sights on which it casts it’s rays
Whatever they may be.
There’s something in the moonlight
That’s calling out to me-
I long to hear the breakers-
Of a seething, tropic sea.
I’ve crossed the wide Pacific-
Crossed the burning desert sands.
I’ve held the miracle of life
Within my calloused hands…
And yet there dwells a force within
More strong than any chain-
Perhaps that’s why so many folk
Believe that I’m insane.

If that's insanity, then I'm insane also.

That roaming spirit is in me deep
and now it must remain asleep,
for the roaming days are in the past
I'm a wild horse tamed at last.

Nice piece Gunslinger.  I'd ride in your posse anyday.

The road is long and dusty
the view is what I yearn
the moving feet of newness
for this my heart will burn

and if that makes me crazy
then crazy I will be
for wonderlust is in my blood
and there's more for me to see

Enjoyed your poem Gunslinger.

The world is such a big place
with so much to see and to do
it would be wasteful not to move
to never know a sunset new

Crazy one is not to see what lies beyond the horizon.  Nice work here Slinger. My compliments.

Yep - and insanity is such a relative issue, isn't it?... Nice work, GS..

This will go down as one of my favorites
There is so much here, that only calloused hands would know. And it's written so beautifully
Would you mind if I keep in my treasure chest of poetry?

My roots run deep and won't allow me to roam, but I yearn to. I guess I am insane also then!! Well done, Gunslinger, as always!!
