Whole Sort Of Genl Mish Mash

My coffee cup is empty.
"When is she going to clear this mess?"
I wonder as I look at the abandoned plates of half-eaten food to my left and my right. I stuff another fork full of underdone waffle in my mouth.

My coffee cup is still empty and the waitress is having a smoke.
"The cook's hair is greasier than this,"
I note as my teeth tear off a fatty bite of bacon.

I look again at my empty coffee cup and hear my waitress console an angry customer, explaining that they are out of mayonaise.
Mayonaise?

Annoyed, I notice my coffee cup is still empty. My waitress lights another cigarette and turns to talk to a friend who just walked in. "My paycheck was $11.00 last week," she complains.

She turns her head and coughs, then wipes some phlem from the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand. Seeing me look at her, she rolls her eyes, grabs a pot of coffee and walks toward me.

I get up, push my plate of half-eaten food to the side, pay the bill and walk out the door before I realize I forgot to leave a tip.

Room for one more at the bar, I hope? I hope The Waffle House doesn't spoil your appetite.

Seems we all run into this type of waitress now and then. I liked this and thought it deserved a second viewing so bump you go to page 1.

You get lousy service sometimes, huh? I guess we all have at one time or another.
Thanks for sharing this here, Jim. I missed it the first time around, so thanks for bumping it up, Gloria!

AHHHH!  You ever think something's gone away forever and then it resurfaces?    Prior to writing this I hadn't really written any free-verse and I was giving it a shot and this turned out to be short prose and not very good prose at that.  These were pretty-much unedited ramblings while my car was broken down in Virginia and the story is completely true, even the thought about forgetting to leave a tip.  I suppose I've been conditioned to leave a tip even if the service is bad and didn't really intend to stiff the waitress.

Oh well, thanks for your kind comments.  This one really stunk. lol

Later.

I too like this and have had servers I'd just as soon forget.       Boy the sights I've seen in a waffle house!  I'm going to print this poem and hang it on the fridge.  Will help me diet!!!        And another bump to the top....
