Comets are harbingers of disaster. That crossed my mind when first I saw Hale-Bopp. Of many things am I not the master. Awed I beheld a force I could not stop. It graced our sky each four thousand years. Planetary forces altered its arc. The orbit was halved by celestial gears. Luminescent coma lights up the dark. At perihelion I saw both tails. By its complexities was I amazed. Compared to this the sub-atomic pales. This revelation left me not unfazed. I pondered this earthly insignificance. Reality exists between extremes. Thought then assumed greater significance. Moreso I realized the worth of Man's dreams. Comets' appearance necessitates change. For whatever reason that fact is true. Dream, I like this. The heavens are filled with forces that we have only just begun to understand. The sheer power and splendor of comets is amazing. |
