sometimes what's behind a gift
means more than
the gift itself
when unexpected gifts come our way
we're likely to be embarrassed
don't know what to say
it's only afterward
as we sit thinking it over
that we understand
we've been given something
very precious
the gift
the gift is what it is
but it's the feeling behind it
that makes it an overpowering, personal thing
which everyone should feel
at least once in their life
it's like Santa Claus to an innocent child

Indeed it is. It's good to remember.

Thank you, Larry, I agree it should be remembered.

That's why women want flowers for no reason...it is inherently implied that the thought behind the gift is just her. ~L

A gift reflects the heart of the giver, every time. The absence of a gift also reflects the heart of the one who didn't give.

I recall as many may, giving my mother a bouquet of dandelions. I was about 33 and wanted her to laugh and reminisce, which she did.

Your fine poetry is a gift to all who read it Mr. Bolton. Thank you.

Pass the Glade if you're going to do that here...

That bouquet of dandelions you gave to your mother most likely touched her heart as no other bouquet of a different flower could. I brought back precious memories.
