The Mermaid’s Song

Late at night while mere mortals sleep, water cover gardens mermaids keep
Beneath the grip of darkened sky, seaweed flowers stretching high
And a world thought silent fills with song, as lilting arias ring out strong
Under delicate waves laced among the tides; a magical world comes alive

As mermaids tend their gardens deep, the earthly land cannot peek
Upon silver sleekness of graceful tails; their jewel-like sheen on glassy scales
Plaited hair, wisps of brown and red, swirling over sea garden beds
While haunting melodies rise to blend with soprano voices in the wind

Music swells from the deep green seas, while the mermaids twirl gleefully
Shards of color crash, violently grand, spilling iridescent lights from fiery bands
And people lost in wondrous dreams are touched by images they’ve never seen
The mermaids rise from ocean lands creating artwork out of coral strands

Magical moonbeams streaking high, brilliant streamers meld in a darkened sky
Colorful strands flirting with the night, darting, dancing among warm starlight
When western dawn breaks, with hints of gray, the mermaids gather to swim away
Diving down deep to mermaid lands, the lights they leave flicker in bands

From then on, at the end of day, a magical lightshow begins to play
Colorful streamers, from the sea below, now cast on earth a startling glow.
Awestruck, under the darkness of night, people watch the dancing “Northern Lights”.
These amazing lights, ever-moving strong, forever pay homage to the mermaid’s song

This is as magical as are the mermaids inside the poem you describe.

~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~

Thank you all.  I think it's a bit over-written, but I haven't dabbled for a long time.
