Monument of Scars

Having been through hell’s disenchanted
Monument of scars once, alone...
Product of all taken for granted—
Sins for which I’d never atone.

With measured smile the grain of salt
Endlessly borne; I can’t resist,
Eyes reflective of chance, and fault,
To reach for all, first time, I missed.

To stand, a man in need of what?
With proclamation high and proud.
To hold this hope, however fraught,
Through all truth or love disavowed.

Where walls of no redemption stand
I will, and will not turn away;
But reach out with an empty hand
To touch hurts none else could allay.

As all of life’s bleak undertones
Oppose resolve, I won’t—you can’t
Go outside to dig up the bones
Of long lost wish, or dream so scant.

The mile markers of our skin,
Temples, once sacred, now just marred.
No notifying next of kin,
With all those doors and windows barred.

I take my place on bed, next you.
Body to body, corpse to corpse,
Mirrored ceiling framing us true.
That perfect blend, love and remorse.

The toast given to all we waste,
Living to die—dying to live,
Foregone to the dissolving taste
Of a world we will never forgive.

So much to ponder over Michael that I'm certain one could spend many days. I have an intimate appreciation for all you've written, but found myself hovering over this:
quote:
"The mile markers of our skin,
Temples, once sacred, now just marred.
No notifying next of kin,
With all those doors and windows barred

Excellente'!

Pass the Glade if you're going to do that here...

Michael...If ever someone deserved a do over or rewind in life it is you my friend.
The past where we dwell
has become our living hell
Tomorrow what will be if only we could see
A life of happiness for you and she...

As always I enjoyed reading...Paul
