growing old is fearful for many
still if we live long enough
we grow old, so what?
your eyesight is not as it once was
still you can spot a hottie
fifty feet away
and yes it is a cliché
to say her beauty is her wealth
even so she too will one day fade
but as you stare at her you feel strength
surging within
too soon she is gone and your strength
subsides minute by embarrassing minute
each day brings about another day older
not what we dreamed about during
youth’s fiery flame
so yes we begin to mellow out
softened with the sunset of our lives
a golden day’s regression
now looking at the world from a lofty height
we now speak prophetic
for we’ve witnessed things from before
we try to warn
no one cares to listen
they must find out on their own
as did we
we weep quicker than we used to
but not about the years before
the nearby future
takes us by the hand
we spend lingering days forgetting
how we felt when young
at last
the final curtain is drawn
we become phantoms of who we were
and somewhere we hear
the world is giving a standing ovation
to a unfilled shell
a last breath
holding responsible the living man

Thanks Lori, I doubt this is all that heavy, but it was cheap California burgundy influenced. Heh.Heh

Maybe you should try some cheap California pot and get high instead...it may lighten your thoughts...or you will just plain forget to write about it! LOL

I'll take a pass on the dope, Lori. Somehow it seems I got up on the wrong side of everything this morning.

Nice write, Jerry.  What you have penned is so true.
Somewhat as old King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes.
Nowhere to go but straight ahead;
there is nothing new under the sun.
And sure “still you can spot a hottie
fifty feet away” even through a set of lenses.

Thank you, bro!  Enjoyed the write.
