When walking hand in hand,
It was not to help each other stand,
But to feel the warmth of touch,
For the glimmer in the eyes
At the beauty of the skies
As the sun fades on our return.

When walking in the woods with you
Seemed to come to a world of just two
A silent hug that meant so much
Then as the day slips into night
A kiss as soft as the moonlight,
That kiss is what I still yearn.

When walking all alone,
Listening to wind softly moan,
There is a cold to the wind’s touch.
Solitude is my lifestyle
With you left my only smile,
Your touch makes my soul burn.

When reflecting in my easy chair
I know why there is no one else there,
I’ve grown old without a warming touch,
I wonder if I shall fade all alone,
A hermit in my urban home,
My heart to ashes in a slow burn.

You touched upon many variations I certainly can, and do, relate to. I remember Marionette and our walks among the piney woods in south Arkansas. This grabbed me . . .
quote:
When reflecting in my easy chair
I know why there is no one else there,
I’ve grown old without a warming touch,
I wonder if I shall fade all alone,
A hermit in my urban home,

has flashed through my thoughts lately also. Still, I can honestly say I am at peace with myself. I thoroughly enjoyed this work.

You made my heart ache PG! You keep this up and you are going to have to start putting hankey warnings on your poems.

Far too many live this lifestyle, Gloom.  You express it eloquently.  I wish for you to find that touch again
