A Woman's beauty casts an equal spell
Upon a heart of Man, be one of youth
Or one where autumn silver now does dwell,
Where the hand of Time does declare the truth -
And yet Her spell does not with Time decay,
But remains a constant, as some in-stone
Old chiseled runes, to ever law convey;
Immortal are the curves, where men atone
For sins are yet to pass - for man does seek
No other rules nor singular commands
But ones the ancient laws of love bespeak,
The ones within Her rule and own demands:
Then how to break the spell so unfair cast?
For now I yield - release will come at last.

Loved this sonnet, CastleGuard. 'Tis true, women can bewitch us when we are young as well as when we've grown old and gray. The loveliness of their form spellbinds us and we lose all sense of purpose except one and that his to win her over.

Don't be overly vexed CG. The allure of a woman is just the devil's way of getting to you.

I knew of a lovely couple once that lived in a gard....

Touch, but don't look

I love the old world feel to this....often times the past and present are not so different after all.
Men and women do not share the same heart beat, or dance to the same drummer...
there is great sorrow and joy in love and longing.

It's always so good to read you, CG.

Jerry - thank you, appreciate your visit and the kind comment. Good thing the 'autumn silver' takes the ...um...edge off a bit....ha.

Lori - of course it ain't. Else we all be millionaires...lol.

Jack - not vexed at all...LOL...actually kind of enjoy all this. So, if you want to get Biblical...but I think gives women unfair rap. Encoded into the DNA, I say...don’t blame Her. Truth be known…it’s men who have closed more deals on a Devil’s handshake…

Blues - thank you for stopping by and leaving a lovely comment. It's the differences of mind, body and soul that attract us...also the ones that can cause lot of grief and misunderstanding.

yann - thank you for the kind words and taking time to stop by and read.
