within me
a brute resides
side by side
with the softer side of myself
an innocence standing by
to soothe the savagery
of the third entity dwelling within me
a hostile
evil creature, a lunatic
these others
have made my life . . . er . . . interesting
they have
by degrees led me far from the beaten path
to places filled with danger
and situations of love and hate
so much so I stand
truly abashed by what transpired
as I look back
Dante’s Inferno, a masterpiece of unnatural thought
lived within me
walked with me
thought for me
they are still there
the brute, the angel, the lunatic
I have subdued them
but sometimes
I feel they are just bidding their time

Don't cha just hate that!? You just washed your demons and can't do a thing with them!
The most frustrating part is knowing it is there and feeling helpless to stop it.  I think we have all had our inner butthead get away from us a time or two. As always, your introspections are special.

Yes, we all have transforming elixirs like Stevenson's 'Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde". It's best not to drink them though.

I have seen women in that role.

I resent the implication that women can be less than perfect! How dare you! Cast such dispersions as to say we have multiple, turn on a dime, hot and cold, personality mood swings!  Of all the slanderous stereo-typing testosterone tainted things to say!

(how am I doing proving your point? )

Don't worry, Jerry, age will control them.
