the years built up on us
got into the routine of living life
hardly ever meeting each others eyes
especially when time for bed
the I loves you were said
by rote
hardly murmured
then in bed
back to back but never touching
whispered the three words
we only said once a day
fighting for covers
whereas before we cuddled
we crept around the house avoiding
any kind of contact
I think back to the days
we couldn’t keep our hands off each other
no more
isn't that we were old and decrepit
no . . .
both were in our forties
plenty of passion still inside us
we held back though
sometime when I looked at her
remembering when she was so very desirable
she still was
wonder if she still thought of me that way
if she did
why didn't she let me know
ahhh . . . probably the same reason I didn't
let her know

That is so very beautiful. Not like butterflies, but just beautiful. You are a star.

Thank you Redstart, I appreciate your kind thoughts. A star? I think not, but it's okay, you can keep saying it. Heh.Heh

Real life, powerfully rendered, dear Jerry. That kind of holding back can have such sad consequences. There is maybe too much need to be reassured, but how beautiful it is when we spontaneously and sincerely reassure our loved ones.

Have a beautiful Sunday.

I think that is why there is the old adage about not going to bed mad...There is the possibility that you will continue to do so. You nailed that back to back business!

Yes Margherita, the holding back is like putting a gun to your head and slowly, ever so slowly, pull the trigger. Thank you for being here.

You could be right, Lori, in that I will probably always do that.
The back to back business, means no business. Thanks for being here.
