*

The street noises fade
as I walk through the soft
murmur of rain.

An old door ajar suddenly sighs
exhaling its breath into my face,
a big load of century old
history-charged air,
of cold and humid residues
of lives lived behind it
with their burdens and their delights.
Beginnings and endings
crackle in the wood.

Slowly the dim light inside
takes on familiar colours
experienced in childhood.
Sounds of laughter
and screams of fear
in vivid theatre fantasies
set in the mystery charged cellar.
With the occasional mouse
among the spectators which
in the sea of its possibilities
had not yet sniffed the magic
of ratatouille delicacies.
But we, the children
and the ever present ghosts,
had known all along
that there were no limits
to imagination.

The door ajar invites me
to refine my perception
to find all its hidden treasures,
like those high piles
of forgotten dreams
held together by golden ribbons
still sparkling in the dark,
patiently waiting
to be rediscovered.

And all the while
I walk in the rain ...

Oh, what do you know
about my sighs
which grow
and rise high
into the skies ...

Very well done, Margherita. To wander back in time, to relive the happiness, the tears, the loves won and lost is a special thing, and this poem is special in that it brought the past alive if only for the day.

Thank you, Jerry. Yes, it's amazing how something as normal as a door ajar can make us travel in time ...

The simplest things can sometimes bring memory forth...memory long forgotten, and make us soft and mellow all over again.

Very well written, my friend.

This was the perfect poem to read after a long hiatus from PiP. I am always impressed with your work.

"But we, the children
and the ever present ghosts,
had known all along
that there were no limits
to imagination. "

I still cannot believe English is your 3rd language. Incredible.

Like watching a great movie, or feeling the warm breeze kiss the cheeks of your face, is your poetry for me,  Margherita. Love it.

Thank you so much, dear Yann, for your loving reply. Yes you are so right, there are spheres of our personal life that remain unveiled to others for different reasons. We are One and yet we are different Universes. The Gospel song comes to mind “Nobody knows the trouble I have seen ….”.  Giving you the link to Louis Armostrong’s version:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVKKRzemX_w&feature=fvst

Thank you, dear Jimmy,  for your kind comment. I am indeed sometimes surprised about the reactions of our brain to images and even more to scents, as  it establishes instant connections to our memories, even from long ago.

Dear James, thank you for telling me you enjoyed reading this.

Dear Spiros, it is a pleasure to find you visiting my thread. Thank you for enjoying it.

Thank you from my heart, dear Ida, for your generous words and for mentioning “Once a gazelle”. Didn’t remember it in the first moment and then I went to look for it and found it. Oh, that dear Lady is still struggling, have visited her last February. She is dancing on the edge …ready for her transition. May the Angels accompany her.

Dear Rileigh, thank you. It’s nice to see you again. Thank you also for the compliments regarding my English. I had a really good teacher back in Switzerland. And now it’s my daily (almost) Pip exercise that keeps me able to express myself in this language, though some doubts arise of course all the time. I think I should thank my teacher and send him a couple of my poems, he would like that I am sure …

Thank you, dear Eric, I enjoyed your loving comment.

Dear Martyjo, thank you so much for your loving comment. Yes, in Assisi there are beautiful doors, that’s nice that you took pictures. Now I am looking forward to read a poem about those doors and windows, because you write beautifully! Now sit down and let the pictures inspire you …

Dear Ebonygirl, what a poetic reply! Thank you so much, you brought a smile.

Love and joy.

Dug up from the soul
Still and yet, the halls echo.
A simple door ajar
Lets in the light of memory.

Reading--I am reminded of T.S.Eliot,
"Time present and time past
Are both perhaps present in time future
And time future contained in time past."

The slant of the street,
Is shown by the stone..
A wedge, to make memory level..
Ah so, perhaps a photo error
But the Labyrinth impression
Is very effective, actually perfect.

I walked along with you in the rain
Unwinding the coil of you past.

Thank you for taking my hand.

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."
Carl Sandburg

Amaryllis, dear Lady, so nice to see you here. Thank you for your loving comment.

Dear Ford, I am lucky that you took a break in your Spring activities - your garden must be a luscious sight! - thank you so much for your beautiful reply. Yes I agree, the NOW holds everything, the past and the future. And isn't our mind a fantastic place as it can project us back and forth (yes also forth!) upon a moment's sudden input.

Love,
Margherita

The door ajar invites me
to refine my perception
to find all its hidden treasures,
like those high piles
of forgotten dreams
held together by golden ribbons
still sparkling in the dark,
patiently waiting
to be rediscovered.

And your words issue the same invitation to us! I love this... both for its own beauty and for the images and memories it evokes. *S*
