Not getting morbid. I'm seventy-three. I think about it from time to time.

Death, oh Death! Mine eyes dim
Don't bother with a hymn.
My last act upon earth
Leave, but remain my worth.

People are living longer now Jerry. My mom is eighty six, she wishes she was your age again im sure.My husband is only four years younger then you.But we all have these kind of thoughts as we get older. Its normal.Hope all is well with you.

I think its natural when we get past a certain age and realize we don't have our whole life in front of us....at the same time,  it ain't over til the fat lady sings!

Bless your mother, Victoria, here's to a wonderful last few  (or long) years. I'm actually proud to be the age I am and can sill function, physically and mentally, although, yes, I forget things, but I was forgetting them in my forties. what the hell.

Thank you dear Victoria for being here.

You've made a mark here for sure.
I say let that fat lady just try to
sing!  I'll slap her up-side her
noggin!  Then run like crazy, cause
I'm gettin' old too....

I did enjoy your thoughts in this write.
Excellent, my friend.

Hi Jerry.  Most people don't think enough about it in order to "be ready" so the fact that you're thinking is a good thing.  The little things of life aren't really the big things so I "soul search" and try to detach from a lot of things.  What to keep?  Love, compassion, honesty, and forgiveness.  The last is the hard one towards myself and towards others so lots of work to do before the big day.

But we smile and enjoy the good things of life for as long as we can.

I think you might just have the right idea about the fat lady, JL. Appreciate your input and the fact that you have read and commented on my words.

I have already conquered the "forgiveness" part of your list about two years ago. A great weight was lifted from my shoulders. I have found love, so scratch that one too. I have always been honest when I maybe should have at times, so that is three out of four of your list. Compassion? I still have a difficult time with that one. Thank you Helen.

Jerry - Compassion is easy.  Just put yourself in the other person's position and then it's done.  You may initially have to think about doing it but like with anything we practice it will soon become automatic.  It can make life a bit difficult when one is naturally attuned to another's plight but one learns to cope.

Good luck.

Oh, I have compassion, I shouldn't have said that I didn't. It is faux compassion to people who society tells me I should be compassionate for, but I can't deal with people who play games.
