her name is Zoe
never thought I'd end my days
staring at a dogs butt
as she strains at the leash
doing zigzag maneuvers following her nose
we are as different as . . .
uh, well she is of the lower species of animal
while I
am superior to her in every way
well, maybe my nose isn't as good
at sniffing out where other dogs have left their marks
she can stop and stare and sniff a bush
or a spot on the lawn
for hours I believe if I'd let her
I let her do her thing until I can't stand it anymore
then I jerk the leash and grumble
pulling her down the sidewalk
until she get another sniff
and goes to investigate
our relationship is a balancing
to her tug to my drag
we mosey along
spending our days together
smelling dog urine
and dog feces

Hi JP, enjoy the walk with cute little Zoe,
she don't ask for much and probably gives a lot...
I, saddly, just lost mine ...

Oh, sweet little Zoe, she knows that it is not only a nose-affair, but it goes well beyond that. A true heart-affair if you come to think of it ... she sustains you while your heart is heavy, just by being there with you. You both need "to go out" for different reasons and she helps you in remaining fit too.

Sorry to hear about your loss, dear Ebonygirl, that is a very sad good bye.

Margherita

Sorry to her that you lost your dog, Ms E. Getting another one is the best medicine. And yes, Zoe gives a lot.

Margherita, I don't know what I would do without Zoe. I have always had dogs except those dark decades I went through. They are the most wonderful thing a man could have.

Yeah, I hear you, Karen. I can't begin to tell you how many "nice" places my wife (deceased) missed on living in because of the no pet rule. Phoenix was the worst. We almost never found a place and that was many years ago.

Thank you for reading my poem and it was a delight to share Zoe with you. She's one of the friendliest dogs I've ever had.

Well you certainly put the reality into the relationship.
Hey it is what it is.
Great excercise and companionship.
At least she will always be happy when you come home.
Good write Jerry

Thanks, Eric. Yeah, Dogs. They love you no matter what, they love you.
