If I had never loved, I never would have cried
‘All things come full circle’ said I
‘I’ll just gather my things now that I’m homeward bound’
And she sat stone faced, daring not to make a sound
Somehow I knew we’d be strangers forever more
As soon as I walked out the door

Now I hear the drizzle of rain outside my window
With a voice that fills my head like an echo
I wonder what she is doing on this day
If chance brought us together, what would I say?
I would surely be a different man in her eyes
From the corner of her mind where memory lies

Back then was a time of innocence
Unafraid we were of the consequence
A moment of time that will never be again
She helped to shape the man that I am
How could time rob me so surely of this memory
Every day brings another loss of mental clarity

But a sense of who I was always remains
Even so long after the growing pains
Still there are questions left unasked
And I resign myself to the torturous task
Of wondering about a love that has died
And simply wondering …why?

I believe all love dies... and goes to heaven
where God takes care of it, I'd surmise.

Well, there is always the New York Times (S & G reference) if one can stand the guff that's put in it these days. An interesting read and a somewhat sad question...
