New Orleans, June 10, 2011
meeting my son
at the Le Pavillon Hotel
got on the elevator
a woman had just gotten on
I slipped by the closing door
she'd scooted
toward the back of the car
to the right
doors closed
then
an uncomfortable silence
overcame the car
as it always does when strangers
become trapped together
in elevators

in the highly polished brass
trim of the door
I could see her face
she was looking up
her eyes riveted at the lights
over the door
marking our ascent
she was very attractive
so much so
I found it difficult to avert my eyes
hoping she wouldn't catch me staring
still
I had a feeling she knew
she was being watched
I've always felt
attractive women are aware
eyes drifting toward them

Love how you catured this slice of life.  Seems to me that human awareness is heightened in elevators and tight quarters...
the air is limited as is our personal space.

good on ya, JP~

Appreciate it, Blues. I have been in some very uncomfortable situations in elevators with women. No, I do not blame them for being distant and aloof. It is a vicious world out there for the weaker among us.

Thanks for stopping by.

Elevators are the worst or the best depending upon who you share the ride with...some people or children are just plain charming or creepy. Good write!

Most perspicacious, Jerry.  A particularly interesting and debatable viewpoint at the end, too.  Smiles.

Thanks Owl. What's debatable? That attractive women know people look at them?

Why? You don't think attractive women notice when people look at them? I don't understand the underlying thing here. Please inform me what about that statement is debatable? You seem to be making something out of nothing, Owl.

Good poem, J.P.

"I've always felt
attractive women are aware
eyes drifting toward them"

Attrractive or not, I think they are all aware when our eyes drift towards them.
And I think most of the time they are flattered by that.

But so as to not make them uincomfortable
I wear sun glasses to hide my lear...lol
