ROAD KILL

Poor little animal laying in the road
I wonder, are you a chipmunk, a squirrel, or a toad
No, It's much bigger than that
I pray it's not a little dog or a cat!

I really couldn't tell from afar
Which poor creature was hit by a car
Maybe a raccoon, a beaver, or a porcupine with quill
How unlucky for you to become road kill

Whew! Pee-U! Now I can really tell
No one could forget that smell!
It was an unfortunate skunk that was struck
His revenge, leaving his stench on the grill of the truck!

Thanks for your reply Juju. There is nothing really to interpert. It's just a fact of life that road kills happen everywhere. Saw one on my way home from work, that is all.

Wonder how long it is going to take for evolution to finally give the animals a fear of black-topped roads and vehicles?

I have seen some dogs (not many) in my life, and cats seem to cross roads more wary than even dogs, so maybe in another thousand years it will happen.

Ha! I love this delightful light piece of dark humor. It was fun to read and your rhymes flowed like fresh guts on the freeway!

Kat - This has a poetic lesson for all of us. If you live and don't or can't read the road signs of life, you could end up as 'road kill'. Nicely crafted Kat. Namyh

Karen,

You don't even want to know about the
armadillo DNA that my husband decided to
discover upon a road trip to Texas back in
2007. And us, in my NEW car....my pretty new PIM
[Nissan Altima] [PIM - Poetry in Motion]
my pretty new deep cherry red PIM...

and the worst part? He could have AVOIDED the
scandal of running over an inflated armadillo!
That poor thing had to have been out there at
least 3 days, as inflated as it was by internal
gasses.....

Oh, the stories we could tell...and talk about the smells!

Reminds me of the song "Dead skunk in the middle of the road"
A fun poem, but the theme stunk at the end..lol
