Things have changed in the USA,
Don't mean to blame just the ole
Crowd, it goes much further than that,
I feel we're up to our last bat.

Everybody's got their hands out,
We're in an intelligent drought.
We've untaught children decades,
With skulls full of mush we have played.

Everyone's on the honor roll,
Now we will pay a heavy toll.
The will to work for daily bread,
Has been ill, and now it is dead.

We have a president so bad,
Might as well be living in Chad.
We'll be a Third World country soon,
And that, friend, will be our blue moon.

There are some in this land of ours,
Here to do mischief from afar.
Some wear robes or burkas to prayer,
It must be hard to breathe the air.

Homegrown radicals set to fight,
They are for change and will excite.
This land of the free may be doomed,
We're engulfed in traitorous fumes.

America, land that I love,
Can you remain what I'm proud of?
We have a battle we must win,
Will we stay strong or a has been?

Here's to hoping that the bans
that have been lifted in my County
to where fireworks will and may
be a spark, light a thought
within the dark and speak to them
that are in shadows, a thought as pure
as a spring time's meadow,
that if not for change, some moments ago
this life they would have never known.

Thank you, Jerry

I hope you enjoy a grand Fourth of July!

JP
I may be acting the part of Candide here, and perhaps my foolish traits have taken over my brain.
But history has shown me that we have experienced the bottom of the ninth before, with a tie score, and the field manager itchin' to turn out the lights.
And then a group of someone's steps up to the plate with a big bat. A true group of thinking patriots, and knocks the ball out'a the park, saving the game.

It feels that that is where we are, J.P.--at the bottom of the ninth.

Thanks for the poem

The fourth line is what put in my mind the words of my reply, J.P.
That center field fence is way out there, the batter better be packin a big stick, baseball bat, that is..

You bet he had, Ice. Beginning to look bad for the home team. I have to say I never thought I would lived to see what is going on now, and has been going on for the last forty or so years.

Jerry, I hear you loud and clear!  I don't share those feelings but I know that most of America does. I think you really got to the heart of the anxiety that has plagued the Country.  Well done

I'm confused, Lori. You said you "don't share those feelings," and at the same time it seems that you do. Maybe it's just me. St any rate, thank you for reading and commenting.

I'm just not as pessimistic, nor do I lay the blame entirely on the President.  I take issue with the press and Polititions that proliferate misinformation.  I think opposition for oppostion's sake is unethical
and deeply unAmerican. I think that the powers that be create and take advantage of an apathetic, misinformed and ignorant electorate.

Did you think that "opposition for oppostion's sake is unethical" when George Bush was the target?

Yes. I'm really independant and what is wrong for one side is wrong for the other.  Personally I think both parties have given themselves too much power and they are both using unconstitutional practices.

I pretty much agree with you about too much power, Lori. I do think the present president deserves a lot of blame, if not all of the blame, for loss of jobs and for kow-towing to our enemies and insulting our friends.
