I pretended to be just another hound
humping your leg in anticipation
of you begging for a bone again

but then you were lady like on sundays
and did that thing with your legs
crossing them like closing the gate

and keeping me outside in your yard
chained to the axle of your chevrolet
although you left it mostly in neutral

so I could follow you around the trees
and always have tires to wet on
until you were ready for petting again

and had to admit I was your best friend

This makes me feel sad.  I love how you write and I did smile as I read.  I don't feel boo-hoo sad, just inside sad.

Yeah, but it still makes me feel kind of sad.  You know?

Whoever made you feel like this kept the relationship so to say out of "axle", but the final realization of you "being her best friend" renders her some humanity.

Masterfully rendered psycho play.

Yet, I agree with dear Alison, there is a touch of sadness/bitterness in this.

Love,
Margherita

Okay, no more sadness ~ now just a touch of envy that you own all the rusted out cars.

I loved your ending to this for sure, but found these lines so intriguing:

"and keeping me outside in your yard
chained to the axle of your chevrolet
although you left it mostly in neutral"

what a mind-picture you've drawn!
