As Time Goes By
By Larry Chadwick
In Memory of Ginger Michelle

So the years have slipped right by,
As I knew they surely would.
And the pain has somehow faded,
As they said it surely should.

It’s been easy to hold you near,
From the memories that we made.
Yet at times it’s hard to recall,
The simple things that seem to fade.

There are times when I still cry,
At the simplest thought of you.
I don’t hide the tears that flow,
For to me they’re just loves dew.

And I think they call it healing,
When you come to grips with loss.
But nothing heals a broken heart.
When a father bears this cross.
July 26, 2009

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Hugging you, dear Larry.
It's good that one can heal without ever letting go of the fondest love memories.
Ginger is still with you.

What a beautiful, poignant thought, dear Larry. No parent should ever bear this cross, no.

She is pure LOVE now and a permanent gift, even if she can be seen only behind your eye-lids now.

Love and hugs.

Dear Ida,
Too many do, I know. And thank you.

Hey Sis,
I think about you so often and your health and your courage. You are so correct. I was reviewing a bunch I had written and the responses regarding my duaghter's death and realized it was time to come in and proclaim some progress!

Margherita,
Such kind words. That "love's dew" struck me from nowhere and I found it very meaningful! And thank you dear lady.

Thank you Rose!
I peek in quite often. My writings now days tend toward prose of my spiritual journey and growth and so I don't post much anymore. But I won't ever let go of the blue walls. And thank you.

Dearest Sharon,
And I can see it too. But I found in reviewing my writings and the responses that much of it was out of my head except for the "documentation". Dang it, maybe it's just my age! >)

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry,

This poem just reached out and wrapped around my heart.  Now, I know of your daughter and I will carry a very small piece of her.  That's what is wonderful about sharing.  We get to feel the bond and the love that you have.

Thank you.  I so love your poetry.

Larry,

Your poem is so true of people who've been in my life, as well.  At first it didn't seem time would pass, but thirty years passed before I knew it!  I'm glad you're able to write this wonderful poem of healing.

My dad has been gone quite a long time now.  How I wish I would have sketched his face!  I did a few years ago by memory, but it was the old face I remember when he was ill, not the face with those spirited eyes!  Gee, I wish I could make the other picture unfold!

"It’s been easy to hold you near,
From the memories we had made.
Yet at times it’s hard to recall,
The simple things that seem to fade."

As I mutter on, I'm sure you can tell, I enjoyed your poem a lot.   It's been good hearing from you again!

Be well,
misce'

I cry with you with every heart-touching poem you have written about the loss of your wonderful daughter Ginger. Healing is a very long, slow journey ~ but we never forget... Nor should we.

Larry, you have the gift to communicate your feelings to others through your expressive poetry. I feel every blessed word.

God bless Ginger, you, and the rest of your family.

Love & Eternal Light,
Linda

Dear Alison,
Such very kind words. That means a lot to me. Thank you.

Dearest Misce',
Too many of us know the experience. I had no idea you are an artist or am I just inattentive? And thank you for the kind words.

You know I just wanted to make the point that just because you still feel emotion regarding such a heavy loss doesn't mean you have not healed. I don't ache and I don't have sleepless lonely nights anymore. But I'll always miss her with passion. Thanks for understanding.

Hey Kaoru!
How are you? Thank you. You are so kind.

Dearest Linda,
You do know I like your passion, right? And thank you for being such a supportive friend all these years. And thank you for suck kind thoughts.

Dearest Lori,
Wow, it always makes me excited to see your name appear. I wonder about you and how you are but don't have your email anymore. And you're so generous in your kindness. Thanks.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

You know she's smiling with every small step you make out of the depths of grief. *S* I know you'll always miss her... but you're living now... and your daughter would be so proud. I'm proud of you too, dear friend... Heartfelt hugs!

Thank you Ruth. You are so kind and supportive of me. You are a precious friend.

It was my hope in this piece to demonstrate two things: 1. That I do, in fact, feel I am as healed as is possible in my loss and 2. That tears alone do not represent a lack of healing.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry, For this one I simply don't have words. It seems that tears have taken their place. But what is the purpose of poetry if not to somehow touch the deepest well of our being.
Very well written, dear poet. You have spread your heart across this page.
Great poem!

James,
Thank you and it's good to see you here.

Dear Liz,
Poetry's magic is that it can enrich us both. Answers seem to be much the same. Thank you for your kindness.

I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

amk337,
Those are generous words. Thank you, it truly was from the heart.

vandana,
Always a pleasure to see you're here. Thanks.

Bill,
Sorry Bill... life can be hard. I've lost track of where you are these days. I'm sorry we never connected while you were in Tucson.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
