When Winter Lingers

What can be carved
from another Winter
  morning,
with nighttime passing
  into day,
as the twilight dawning’s
dark-bright window,
mirrors and mixes
scattering clouds
and shattering dreams,
with eternal whisperings
upon the hope of Spring?!

In Alaska, sled dogs and mushers are getting ready for the Yukon Quest.
Since they need good snow for the Quest (and Iditarod) they want Spring to stay away until...'break-up' which ordinarily isn't until April.
I guess they see Winter morning's in a very  different light.

Love lady Midnitesun's comment.
Beautiful poem again.

When Winter Lingers

When winter lingers
Don't we know who holds her heart?
A delicate thread

It's cold in Alaska this winter - we have plenty of snow for the Iditarod and the Quest ~ and we are all looking forward to March.  The light changes and the days seem warmer.  Kacy knows.

Spring will be welcomed - we just want to keep the snow.

very lovely snapshot of my least favorite season, winter.

Though I, at times, dislike winter, I love your poem.
I'm always in love with spring and this makes me long for it even more.

Fine images of this slow-moving season! Here, encouraged by some pre-season warmth, confused trees began early buds. A few brave pips rose above the earthline to look around, but it's too early for greening.

Secondhanddreampoet,

Good work.  Winter always hangs around too long.

However, that's what I think of summer too.

I love and miss true winter, but it is an overwhelming moment when Spring breaks through ... i.e. with snowdrops piercing through the slowly melting snow ....

I love your winter poems very much, though you seem a little bit melancholic!

Love,
Margherita

We've had quite a lot of rain here lately with more expected. (For So. Cal. that's winter lingering) but today is a lovely, sunny day and I should be outside but reading good poetry is so addictive.
