My brothers and I sold what ever we could get our hands on too. We did pretty good with scrap metal, especially copper. The old man at the scrap yard bought whatever we could deliver, no questions ask.

I'd happily invite Felix in and he could help himself to the $20 in loose change I'd left next to the plate of sandwiches & chicken legs..... I don't like my little pal being cold, wet, hungry, scared or broke..I wish I could help all the Felix's in the world...if I ever got to be really wealthy, that is just what I'd do, I was so lucky not to have had a hard life & I really feel for the little feller....

John,

Thanks for your kind words on this poem.

Here's hoping you get really wealthy.  You and Felix deserve that.

Thanks for the sandwiches & chicken legs.  They hit the spot.

The drum-like rhythmic insertion of "He is hungry" brought the real drama into the light. If nobody was hungry, there would be no need to steal.

Dear Bobby, if only we could think always that the thieves steal to feed a hungry child!! This may be true in a very small percentage of cases. It's sad. It is a very complex social problem.

Love,
Margherita

Dear Margherita,

Thanks for responding Hon.

From the point of view of the hungry child, it’s not a complex social problem at all.  Felix is going to get fed.

The complex social problem is that too few people control too much of the worlds resources.  It’s their greed, and avarice that causes the problem.  It’s really their complex social problem to solve, and it’s really not that complex.  They could solve it if they wanted to.

Love Bobby, who's been there.

Hmmmm, you are slowly becoming one of my favorite poets here, I like your style, very different form mine but it is quite refreshing. I enjoy your irony and laissez-faire approach to getting the messages across.

thank you,

Ocean Vuong,

Thanks for the read, and comment.

However, I’m very much anti laissez-faire, but only when it comes to economics.

Dear RDB,

Felix says thanks.  He wants lunch made with your own dear hands though.

You know how it is.  Felix craves that personnel attention.

How awesome. I love the simplicity of the language and tone in this and how it truly brings Felix alive in the images. And the repeating of, “He’s hungry” does not allow you to escape his plight. This piece is awesome…

quote:
Be content in knowing,
you've fed a hungry child.

He's hungry.

It's interesting the way the closing lines offer a small measure of consolation, then throw it away.

Felix is always going to be hungry, no matter how much he eats.  His view is simple: only he, himself will ever care about or take care of him. The hunger of being completely alone won't satisfied by a regular diet.

Robin Hood is hanging around here somewhere.  Please be patient.
