Jitterbug princess,
bopping hard to acid house,
She has no IPod.

Once a week I pass by
this street-side train wreck,
I have to look - it’s brutal.

The jive vultures
hawk their wares discreetly.
I know who they are
they can see me, too.

Their clients are pockmarked, filthy,
skeletal in their need.
Whining, yelling, crying
They're oblivious to everything
but their well-kept pets.
They resemble them, too,
as they gibber and caper
their hunger satisfied - for now.

The broken ones litter the sidewalk
in lines – pieces of their lives surround them
in gunpowder starbursts.

Jitterbug princess jaywalks –
foot slams on the brakes,
hands slam on my hood.
Hoffman screeches from behind a raging smile,
“I’m waulkin’ hee-ya!”
Our eyes meet for an eternal moment
and I cry in anguish.
I still remember the last time I saw her gaze,
eight years ago
screaming from my mirror.

Hey BBG: Long time no hear.  This is such a sad walk on the other side.  The last 2 lines just kill me.

BBGrrl...Shocking write, but reality is shocking sometime. I just don't see how some people think everything is roses in the world, when there is so much more they turn their backs to. Sort of goes along with my poem of yesterday you replied to...Paul

I can only echo the words of others,  a very
well written write, and a jam up ending.
