UNJUST
10 April 2002

in the broad-leaved fig
is a bird
is a bird

just a dove you say
just a dove

no not just a dove
a dove
a dove
not just a dove

if you
were that dove
you wouldn’t be
just a dove
you’d be
that dove
that one
in that tree
on that branch
up there
no not that one
the one to the left
and above
the one with the dip
you’d be
all of
that dove
and
all of
you

sweet bird of grace
you are more than just
a symbol of peace
most powerful force
you with your soft
dawn-rose breast
on misty gray
and your delicate beak
that preens
your plumage smooth
for your health
your comfort
your mate
and your bright gold eyes
on your rounded head
turning this way
and that
on your circular world
and your elegant feet
locked on your bark-brown branch
too light for cats
a leaf-ceiling
safe from birds of prey
each leaf bigger than you

little dove
pretty dove
precious dove
I love you
yes you
whom I see
up there
in the tree

for me
you’re you
all of you yourself
and only you
a friend
whom I may
never again see
a reality
of grace and peace
not just a dove
a dove
not just

Doves are a rare sight now a days, witch is a shame they are the most beautiful of the pigeon family..
Beautiful poem Owl reads a little like a sonnet

I am sorry to hear that there are few doves where you live, Annie.  We have a lot here in South Africa.  Thank you for enjoying my poem.

Thank you Kacy.  Yes, I love them, too.  I hope you are feeling a lot better today.

I like this poem very much because it say a truth I love, we are all the same but everyone is unic, this dove is not another dove, she is the dove as e vrey human being is the human being...

thanks Owl for the shared poem.

Oh, Owl, I absolutely love doves and this beautiful poem that only a sensitive and loving person like you could write. My daughter was standing in front of her workplace, talking to another employee when a white dove landed on her shoulder. Her fellow employees thought that was very strange but we seem to attract animals of all kinds. Perhaps they sense how we feel about them.

How your heart sings, dear Diana!

Wonderful!

I agree with Ida, no doubt the animals detect the positive vibes emanating from humans that love them.

They are a beautiful peaceful bird and very friendly.

Yes, a dove but a special dove because it's the dove that is.

Very nicely expressed with passion that encompasses!

Yann, thank you for understanding my poem so perfectly and for sharing my view.  I am glad you enjoyed it.

Ida, thank you for your wonderfully warm response.  What a beautiful story about your daughter!  Dogs, don't bite me - I often say, "Either I taste bad, or they know that I adore them all!"  One did, but it was by mistake and the poor darling dog got such a fright that I had to calm him and his owner down.  I wrote a poem about it.  I will post it sometime soon.

Thank you Margherita.  I believe you are right - that animals do read those vibes so well.

Thank you Eric, for your kind words and for loving doves.

Yo Owl,

Many things are unjust in the world.  This isn't one of them.

Nice work on Doves.

BTW, They can be tasty.

Owl, I love this poem for all the love it  shows to all creatures alive. We are all one of a kind and you show that so beautifully. Thank you. We are also fortunate to have a lot of Doves here in  mid Florida. Right now for some reason this yard has been covered with Robins. I think we are on a flight pattern for them to stop and refresh as they have been around in the hundreds for a few weeks now.  "late"

I'm eagerly awaiting the return of our mourning doves...such a soft and beautiful tribute to a singularly fragile bird.

Hi Diana....Doves have always been a part of my life, in sound and leaf.  Their peaceful beings that spread that peace to anyone who cares to see and listen with their heart.  Lovely ode to one of my favorite feathered friends. Hugs!

My Mother has Alzheimers and one of my fondest memories of her is her sitting by the sliding glass window and feeding the chickens.. She calls all birds chickens because she has forgotten the correct words to use, but, even though, the doves are not offended, they are not offended by her confused words, they have the ability to look beyond her faults and they still Love— They still come.

Thank you and God bless,

Oh, Lighthouse Bob, that is absolutely beautiful.  Just need to tell you, the doves don't look beyond your mother's faults.  Instead, they love the gift of a special name that your mother gives them.  They don't love her "in spite of" the name chickens, as you implied.  Instead they love her even more because of it.  Thank you for your delightful response.
