Picture Her, All In Dark

In layers of deep quiet
peel away the veils of time
as one would strip an old painting
gasping for air

for she is in need of oxygen
for her pores to breathe

beneath the black of soot and time
lay virgin skin, waiting, beckoning,
responding with blushed pulse

for the right touch.

Too hard, and the veil will crumble,
steeped in age, weary to time and sterility
of absence, she moans;
too soft, and the veil will mold beneath
fingertips, perhaps, yours, if they do not move
in quick yet graceful succession…

Touch

and bring forth like a well-witcher’s wand
the liquid of tone, spring color to cheek
light air with hope, spiral spine to leap

and she will…

Your will
becomes her.

And Mona leases her smile.

Nicely described-nicely done.  You made me feel for the painting.  And then I wondered if you meant me to extend the metaphor to people who have been put away, like those in the nursing home that I see when we visit.  A little care, a little help, and they can shine too.
