Dark side of the Moon.

                          “The Carousel”

                       "Prelude to a Carousel"

She stood at the mirror, brushing her auburn hair that shone soft like corn silk. Her hair shook and cascade cleanly down over her soft, delicate shoulders. She was tall, regal and statuesque, with an air that could have reflected nobility in a previous life. The brush strokes through her hair sparked electrically as she hurried to complete her task before nightfall. The last golden orange strands of the sun melted through the window as the day began to fade into the glowing embers of twilight. She wished not to gaze upon the mirror in darkness for she new it to be the portal of places unmentioned.

As the curtain of night drew to extinguish the last glowing embers of day, the ceiling of stars exploded in the heavens in a sparkling majesty. She moved to the terrace and inhaled the fragrance of the newborn evening. The moonlight caught the glint of the pewter unicorn she wore around her neck. It lay soft against her alabaster skin, between her throat and breasts. It moved with the gentle rise and fall of her bosom as she breathed.

As the shadow of the moon moved closer to envelop this lovely lady, she moved from the terrace into the night. A wisp of wind caught a lock of her soft auburn hair and danced across her lithe body like an unseen sprite. Caught up in the enchantment, she smiled inwardly as she gracefully moved in a glide toward that which her heart sought, and her blue green eyes turned a shade toward emerald in her mounting excitement.

               "The Carousel"

She walked in a gown of emerald green
into the clearing called "Carousel Glade",
with auburn hair so shiny and clean
she swirled through the mists of dreams she had made.
Awaiting her there in glorious white
a proud unicorn prepared for her ride.
Her gown matched her eyes that sparkled delight
when she saw her steed and went to its side.

In Carousel Glade her champion there
all dressed in silver, shiny and bright,
brought blush to her face so lovely and fair
and joy to her heart so carefree and light.
He swung up astride the saddle with ease
and offered his hand so strong and true.
The unicorn pranced as much as he pleased,
showing his spirit was magical too.

The wind in her face, champion behind
strong arms around her said you’re safe tonight.
Leaning back to him and happy to find
her champion there, a most handsome sight.
They rode through the souls of all those who dream
of Ladies and Knights, of lovers and more,
to Carousel Glade, full circle it seems
return once again to life as before.

The carousel stopped, the Lady stepped off,
the unicorn still, the mist swept away,
her champion too, his armor gone soft,
the silver that shone now faded and gray.
Though tattered and worn, the luster long gone
The Lady sees through the dust and the shade,
to see his pure heart.. his gallantry strong,
and joy that they share before the dream fades.

They’ll ride again soon on the carousel
        to share the dreamy feelings in their hearts;
and to the sharing souls their hearts will tell
they never really are so far apart.

Bravo!!  This magical write held me captivated,
from the prelude thru the ending stanza!
By far one of your best Ken.
Yes, the unicorn on the carousel does prance full circle.
An enchanting addition to my library.

I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.
