Clachan Duich

If miles could melt away
I’d be at your side,
Mingling tears with other mourners

But the Highlands' beauty
Wears the bleak shroud of alone;
I’ve only memories

You gave a dress – ruffled pink,
The epitome of femininity I was not
But I loved how you saw me

Always special in your eyes,
I became the daughter you chose
When your womb bore only sons

Such love sustained me as I dissolved
Into a toy with voice unheard
In your arms, there was no shame

We laughed at how much you talked -
And how the nickname "Ditsy" was deserved
I would love to hear your laughter now

You would have understood the quiet call
That drew me to these cold stones
Marking those who were of our blood

Secure in belonging to them and you
I sing a song of grace
Giving thanks you graced my life

The hills echo a jubilant harmony
As the clan welcomes you home

And my voice cracks with grief

In loving memory of my aunt, Faye Marshall Holdt

suthern,
A loving tribute to someone you loved.
I'm sure somehow she was reading over your shoulder.

suthern,
it seems you don't have to kiss the Blarney to have the gift of words. This poem is astounding in its depth. Every time I read you I appreciate the heart of your spirit more. Send me photos either by snail mail or email.

Oh how this aches! They say the separation isn't forever, but that's cold comfort when the separation is now and forever is so long in coming.

But remember, Laura Ruth, even forever can be very short.

suthern,

I really like how you control the speed and emotion with which I read your poetry.  It always leaves me in deep thought.  A very beautiful and sincere tribute.

Beloved one I came here seeking beauty and knowing I would find it I searched on your name. What she saw, I see, you are incredibly beautiful, in spirit, in truth and in my soul. No one can read you and not see the beauty that surrounds you like a veil. Your words echo the truth of your soul and I love you for that quality.

Truly an outstandingly beautiful piece of poetry, I so wish I had your ability to see and write real beauty.

Love and warm stuff
