Keeping Cold Winds at Bay
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Hot cider sipped by a crackling fire,
On this chilly winter’s day,
Warming me ~ from the inside out,
Whilst keeping cold winds at bay.

The crisp, clean air is stirring my mind,
With memories crystal clear.
My heart is rife ~ with love and life,
As I hold my loved ones near.

The sun beams down, upon frozen ground,
And lights the mantle of snow.
I’m not alone ~ tho’ by myself,
As I bask in winter’s glow.

I am flooded with warm memories,
Of times that have long since gone.
Tho’ I rue the loss ~ of those I’ve lost,
Each day brings a bright new dawn.

Hot cider sipped by a crackling fire,
On this chilly winter’s day,
Warming me ~ from the inside out,
Whilst keeping cold winds at bay.

Love is the unifying force which integrates
one’s soul with that of another.
~ Linda L. Dowd

tru ~

I find that communing with Nature is very healing. Having lost both my parents this summer (just four weeks apart) has brought many memories to the fore ~ especially at this time of year. Memories (and hot cider ) have a way of keeping me warm on these cold December days.

Thank you for your nice response to my poem.

Sigi Elohi Arvidawehi, you bring deep comfort to the spirit much better even than the warm cider is the warmth of your loving heart!
