This chill, so sudden behind the
Searing flash of lead that cleaved
My breast.    The shallow of my
Beat,  the labour of my breath,
The wander of eyes that see the
Dim of day, though bright the
Morn.

Mother….mother dear,  I cry to thee.
I beg to once again be held.

Fear drags me toward the cold
Dark earth….as thirst drowns my
Tongue and  sounds of birds dance
Merrily with the ring that my ears
Carry madly to my grave…

Oh Father, dear father…if  thee
Had not worn the shield,  thy
Hands might  hold me….but
The grounds have found thy
Bed and thy head lies still upon
The stones…

And now is I whose breath
Falters…as a solemn cooling tear
Mixes with the crimson which
Falls silently into the
plundered grounds.

and for the price of Liberty go I.

oh Barry, so tragic, and yes, for the price of liberty...a very painful poem, yet well done and extremely moving.

Thanx Leej,  the reality is certainly
painful for those who have experienced the
wounds of war and those left behind living
with the losses...  Thank You.
