I knew what it was
the moment I felt it
blackberry winter
fable I had heard
yet never seen
a time
of cold seduction

wind shivered its way
past my ears
I reached
for something warmer
found myself exposed

shy elm
in front of my window
stripped herself
stood naked
arms reaching skyward
undone
and proud

clouds darkened
thinned
blew chilly breath
licked frost
on my lips

ice
giggled
at my front door
crunching underfoot
threatening me
with a fall

I laughed back
unafraid

don't you know
I can fall no farther

Lady...it's even cold in Southern California, but I've not been outside to test my slipperyability...I think I'll wait a bit for warmer.  Loved your poem!

"I reached

amazing.

I live in Southern California too, and it's cold here... well, at least for us. This poem makes it worth it.
Thanks for writing.

Now there is a new term. Never heard that before. Not 'uphere' in Canada. It has been down to -30 deg. C.

Thus, no berries. Those make me think of bears. Hopefully, those are 'high-bear-nating' now. LOL.

Thank you for the warming thought of berries...
