prologue :

a single phone call can change a guy's life ... or possibly send it into a tailspin

the day he finds out her swell grin

                                   never fails to begin

the moment her favorite Blue Whale walks in :

but i thought he was your brother and the two of you were just talking

about subjects innocent enough that could have you easily  balking at the very thought of a romantic encounter

how did he zero your counter?

i thought our Atlantic was the only counter you'd ever choose to prepare your meals

how did his sails sweep you away

when you swore his deals weren't enticing enough to get you to pay

for his cake no matter how delicious his icing tastes to listen to

i thought i was your true

soulmate

                                         sweetheart

                                                                                love,

                                                                                howard

Painful
Maybe not poetry in the strictist sense
yet neither is Haiku.
But painful
