My Inner Sanctum
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

All was gray this November morn,
For a bank of dense mist had rolled in.
~ Blanketing all in a somber pall,
Much to my rue and chagrin.

When I opened the shutters, there lie before me,
An impenetrable wall of fog.
And the only sound that did break the still,
Was the lone, haunting call of a frog.

A veil of gauze did filter my view,
Of the harbour this late autumn day.
A gloom had settled upon our port,
Engulfing me in dismay.

Negative ions soothed my senses,
And the mist did moisten my skin.
I experienced a calm not felt before,
As I turned pensive thoughts to within.

Within the still of the encompassing fog,
I found my sanctum santorum.
This sacred place lies deep within me.
~ It’s the home of my spiritual quorum.

I stood there in silence, as if under a spell,
Communing with God, land and sea.
~ Understanding my place in the Universe,
As a part of All That There Be.

'My Inner Sanctum'

I had one of those once ... now what did I do with it ?

Oh ... yes, now I remember ... I loaned it to a friend~
Well ... like that proverbial 'cup of sugar' ... I think I'm gonna ask for it back~

LOVE your pensive thoughts dear one~

One of my 'grannies' was called "Red"! Whenever I see your name, her loving smile appears before my eyes. I know that my Nana Red would appreciate your warmth and wisdom as much as I do.

Your kind, thoughtful comments are always appreciated, Dear One!

I love the fog... whenever I can sit in it and listen. *S* Now driving through it... that's another matter entirely! *S*

But to simply sit in its mist, allowing it to block out all distractions... that does invite introspection. *S* Beautifully written!

This brought back memories of my child hood seeing the "frog" (as I called it then) roll in through the fields...I once almost got lost in it, it was so thick...very good poem...take care...JulieAnn

Dear Linda, I enjoyed your Inner Sanctum Sanctorum greatly ... and it is so soothing, that I am ready to lay me down to sleep ... not before visiting that wondrous place you have so masterfully described, knowing that in that "special Communion" I find comfort.

Loving you, Poetess.
