Silence of the Yams

Tis hardly worth mentioning
but still the words must be said
Awake I lay til crack of dawn
then I sat up in bed

I forgot to make the yams
to accompany our family feast
the can still sits upon the shelf
between green beans and yeast

The marshmallow adornment
was used for krispie squares
I really do apologize
if anyone still cares.

No one said a word to me
that something was awry
and suddenly in dark of night
I knew the reason why

Perhaps no one really liked
the yams I prepare each year
Maybe they always ate them
out of love or out of fear

Next year I’ll test my theory
amid Thanksgiving plans
Then I will know for sure if
there’s silence of the yams.

I love it

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

This is my very favorite Thanksgiving poem.

I am grateful to Interloper for bringing this back up.

I am grateful to Sharon for writing it.

I am grateful that yams are silent--if they start screaming? I'm upping my meds.

Happy Thanksgiving PdV!

I'm grateful that you read it Karen. And I'm grateful you're upping your meds. (I think I am anyway - it is a good thing no?)

tootoofun!!!

I love yams, but I know many who do not; a delightful tale that
hits the spot!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Sharon~I don't mean to bring this up..oh gee, there I go again.
But, I don't understand "marshmallow adornment"?
Does one top their yams with it?

Speaking of marshmallows, and who wasn't..?
I was sitting here thinking they would make great Christmas tree decorations..
Just stick them on the needles and abracadabra, it would look like little snow balls all over the tree, no?
I'm upping my meds too.

I am so out of here-

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
