Listening to every heart

1956 Moment

I’m not good with the make of cars,
it was either dark blue or even black, there
weren’t many choices then, though its interior was tan,
I know, because I was afraid that blood from
my knee wouldn’t come out from the space of tan…silence screams!

But you…now, now I remember, it was that day
you had begged, cried, to be in front; and I remember,
that the dark blue, hard metal console
and how it found your soft baby chin then,
when another vehicle ran that sky-high blood red light,
hard squealing sounds, Dad tried to stop, too
quickly, and

Collision sounds ~ somewhere else in kingdom spent.
Not recalling disharmony, only flowing red…
a young chin’s first cut, not even from a
bully-boy’s fight, just a child’s slipped body
from a benched seat in a ‘50’s car … coming to a stop too fast…

we never went home; Daddy headed to some doctor
more heed paid to blood than tendon,
because I lied, I didn’t hurt,
I wasn’t bleeding, you were, you needed more…
while Doc pasted temperance; and I recall your fear…

~*~

this day, 2006, today, this now, through
corporeal stress, functioning coming too hard,
a sequence in someone else’s good deal,
some mind diagramming moments to press
into non-existent spaces…and oh, then, into my space…

this, my own chin, began a’tingling,
a striking lightning rod across one and one quarter inch length
of rip, tear, red, you…your chin;
my finger, a left handed raise to stop
some non-existent blood
and your birth day is Saturday.

Did you think
that I could forget?

~*~

I'm not sure what to say

that moment can stay with a person forever, and usually does

I know

Flashbacks can hurt almost as much as when they actually happened.
