Louise lived across the street,
she was everything good to eat
with taffeta and egg cups,
different was close to walk
and same was as boring as my house.

Just take the top off,
(whoever heard of such a thing)
scoop the goodness out
with salt and butter
and a mother of Italian accent hovering.

Louise told me about French kissing,
(somewhere between her house and mine,
probably on a summer late sun evening
when I was ten or who knows when.)
I couldn’t believe that about tongues
and looked at her in disbelief.

She also told me where babies come from
when she was twelve or so,
I never knew where she got her information
but I’ll bet it was from a thirteen year old.

You can do that with that? I thought,
as she made the yucky in me grow.

Just tap the shell with something,
(was it knife or spoon?) I loved that sound,
then take the top off.

How scrambled my eggs had always been.

I wonder what ever happened to Louise.

As "Louise" is my middle name, I was drawn to the title ~ then I saw the name of the author!  ~ so of course I had to pop in for a look-see!

My "Louise" was a Susan! Gosh, Martie, you just opened a flood-gate of memories with this wonderfully written piece of nostalgia!

Loving hug 'n a smile,
Linda

This brought back memories of another 10 year old, who had a similar epiphany.

Nicely done Martie!

Thanks for sharing!

got my brain a going in kind, don't think a teen taught me this stuff, not sure when I'd heard enough, but you headed me back to 7th grade with scenes flitting about my mind's eye begging to be penned...don't know if I'll give in, tho

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

I love it
maybe most of all
your work
it lives and breathes
and talks to me about
Brenda
my across the street friend

the egg metaphor is so great!

Your Louise was a young lady
whose name I don't remember,
but her grandmother's house...

that, is ever present in my mind.

I was supposed to "be a friend" for a day...
and entertain this young lady...

and it was my first encounter
of special coddled eggs...

omg,

the memories you revive....

Ah, the great unsaid....sometimes a poem of yours is simply a triumph of it. Well done, flower girl!
