               The Rule Need Not Apply

               This is the day
the day that would have been
               the end and the beginning
the day that could have been
               the day when everything changed.

               This is the day
that should have arrived with you
my morning of a new world
               my scrambled eggs for breakfast
               with a familiar voice
               in an unfamiliar kitchen.

               This is the day
that could have been written down
all day long in parallel verse
of love letters across a sun lit room
in reflections in a common mirror
               of silvered smiles.

               This is the day
that did not arrive as eagerly planned
the day when the permanent ink
had long since dried in the nib of the pen
before the papers could be signed
this is the day when the hoped for future
               becomes merely the regrettable past.

this poem hits me
in my heart
and read it tear welled
do not give up on your dreams
the right thing ALWAYS wins out
do not just dream at night
let dreams take your day
to fill you and carry you
into tomorrow

I just watched a movie called The Lake House....and somehow reading this made me feel like you had just watched it too.  In your poem I don't feel the happy ending though...I'm sorry.
