wait ‘n see hangs in thick air
over bayou
sliver moon hides herself
behind shakin’ leaves
loblolly pines peek at silent house
ouaouaron makes big croak
tellin' tales
herb saint
day lilies
give up secret scent
bayou knows
what happens tonight

charcoal man
slides long legs from dream sheets
eyes drink of lady
shadow hair sleepin'
on pillow
half moon fingers
folded under silk cheek
feel of soft shoulders under his arm
already missed

charcoal man looks
where p'tit boug sleeps
run and play tucked away
for night
little feet ready to leave bed
soon as sunpeek
     t'char
     mon fils
charcoal man tastes words on tongue
    my son
folds wilted calypso blossom
into small brown hand
    all I got mon fils

charcoal man
takes Panama from nail
slips screen door open
easy like
slides polished feet off porch

lady stirs
dream smells
cigar
shadow hair spreads
lookin’ for her man
p'tit boug crushes calypso in fingers
pitches
aroma too old

ouaouaron quiet
herb saint
day lilies
pull back scent
bayou listenin’ to

gone

You make me silent inside as I absorb the beauty of your words and the tale you weave.

I find I sit for several minutes after I read these..
absorbing the story and not wanting them to ever end.
Wish I could write like this, seemingly effortlessly.
